Ever stared at a pile of gravel and thought, “How much of this do I need?” You’re not alone. Many homeowners, landscapers, and DIY lovers run into the same problem. That’s why we built our Crushed Stone Calculator.
This tool makes your job simple. You enter your space size, stone depth, and pick the stone type. The calculator gives you the amount of crushed stone you’ll need in tons and cubic yards. No more guessing. No more buying too much or too little.
The calculator uses a clear math formula. It converts your project size into volume, then into weight.
Here’s the plain text formula:
Tons = (Length in feet × Width in feet × Depth in feet ÷ 27) × Density in tons per cubic yard
Order Quantity = Tons × (1 + Waste%)
Most stone has a density between 1.2 and 1.7 tons per cubic yard. Our tool includes common sizes like 3/4 inch crushed stone and 1/2 inch crushed stone. You can also enter a custom density if your supplier gives you one.
Using our calculator is as easy as pie.
In seconds, you’ll see how many cubic yards and tons of stone you need.
Let’s say your driveway is 40 feet long and 10 feet wide. You want a 2-inch layer of 3/4 inch crushed stone.
Step 1: Convert depth. 2 inches ÷ 12 = 0.167 feet
Step 2: Volume in cubic feet = 40 × 10 × 0.167 = 66.7 ft³
Step 3: Volume in cubic yards = 66.7 ÷ 27 = 2.47 yd³
Step 4: Weight = 2.47 × 1.35 = 3.33 tons
Step 5: Add 10% waste = 3.66 tons
So, you’ll order about 3.7 tons of crushed stone.
Guessing is risky. Order too little and your project stalls. Order too much and you waste money. Our tool helps you plan right, save cash, and finish your job on time. It’s like having a handy math buddy by your side.
The Crushed Stone Calculator saves you time, money, and stress. It gives you fast results in tons, yards, and square feet. Whether you’re fixing a driveway, building a path, or landscaping a yard, this tool makes sure you order the right amount.

One cubic yard usually covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches deep.
Prices vary by location, but one ton can cost between $25 and $50.
Gravel is often a bit cheaper. Crushed stone may cost more, but it locks better for driveways and heavy use.
