Easily find your metal roof cost with our free Metal Roof Cost Calculator. Get roof area, panel count, and total cost in minutes.
If you’re wondering how much a metal roof will cost, you’re in the right place. Our Metal Roof Cost Calculator helps you work it out in minutes. No math headaches. No guesswork. You’ll get the roof area, the number of panels you need, and the total cost.
This tool is great whether you’re building a new home, upgrading a pole barn, or replacing shingles on a mobile home.
Using the calculator is easy. First, choose if you can safely measure your roof.
If you can, enter the length and width of your roof. The calculator works out the area.
If you can’t, use your home’s footprint. Enter the footprint length, width, and the pitch multiplier. Don’t know the pitch? Use a pitch chart or a roof pitch calculator.
Next, enter your panel size. Add the panel cost too. The tool will tell you how many panels you need and the total price. You can also include a 10% waste buffer to cover mistakes and cuts.
The calculator uses simple math. Here’s the process in plain text:
Roof area from direct measurements:
roof length × roof width = roof area
Roof area from footprint:
footprint length × footprint width × pitch multiplier = roof area
Panel area:
panel length × panel width = single panel area
Panels needed:
roof area ÷ panel area = number of panels (round up)
Total cost:
panel cost × panels needed = total price
Let’s say you can’t measure the roof directly. Your home’s footprint is 100 ft by 120 ft. The pitch multiplier is 1.25.
Roof area = (100 × 120) × 1.25 = 15,000 sq ft
Each metal panel is 16 in × 16 in. That’s 256 sq in, or about 1.78 sq ft.
Panels needed = 15,000 ÷ 1.78 = 8,438 panels
If each panel costs $3, then:
Total cost = 8,438 × $3 = $25,314
Add 10% for waste: about 9,282 panels and $27,846 total.
Metal roofing is tough. It stands up to rain, snow, and wind. It also lasts decades with little upkeep.
Copper is classic and quiet in the rain. Zinc is eco-friendly and shapes well. Aluminum is best for coastal homes. Steel is affordable and common in both homes and barns.
Our Metal Roof Cost Calculator is a time-saver. You’ll get accurate numbers in minutes. That means better planning and no surprise costs. Whether it’s a 1,500 sq ft garage, a 2,000 sq ft home, or a 16×80 mobile home, this tool works for all.
At $10 per sq ft installed, about $20,000.
At $7 per sq ft, around $7,000.
Upfront, shingles cost less. Over time, metal roofs last longer and may cost less in repairs.
Usually between $5,000 and $10,000 depending on materials and labor.
