Easily find out how long your solar panels take to charge any battery. Use our free solar panel charging time calculator for fast and accurate results.
Ever wondered how long your solar panel will take to charge a battery? You’re not alone. Many people buy solar panels but aren’t sure how to calculate charging time. That’s why we built the Solar Panel Charging Time Calculator. It gives you a clear answer in seconds. No tricky math. No guesswork. Just simple results.
Our calculator uses a proven formula. It takes your battery size, depth of discharge, panel power, and efficiency. Then it shows the charging time in hours.
The formula is:
Charging Time (hours) = (Battery Wh × DoD) ÷ (Panel W × Efficiency)
Let’s break it down in plain English:
For example: A 100Ah battery at 12V is 1200Wh. If you discharge it by 50%, that’s 600Wh to replace. With a 200W solar panel at 85% efficiency, the panel delivers 170W. Divide 600Wh by 170W and you’ll get about 3.5 hours of full sunlight.
It’s that simple. You’ll also see a clear step-by-step breakdown of the math.
How long will a 200W solar panel take to charge a 100Ah battery?
A 100Ah 12V battery = 1200Wh. At 50% discharge, you need 600Wh.
A 200W panel at 85% efficiency gives 170W.
600 ÷ 170 = 3.5 hours of peak sunlight.
How long will a 500W solar panel take to charge a 100Ah battery?
Same 600Wh energy needed.
A 500W panel at 85% efficiency gives 425W.
600 ÷ 425 = 1.41 hours (about 1h 25m).
How long does it take to charge a 5kW solar battery?
Let’s say the battery is 5000Wh (5kWh). With a 1000W panel at 90% efficiency, output is 900W.
5000 ÷ 900 = 5.55 hours.
The 20% rule means you shouldn’t discharge your battery more than 80%. Leaving at least 20% protects battery life. For example, if you have a 100Ah battery, don’t use more than 80Ah before recharging.
The Solar Panel Charging Time Calculator makes life easier. You don’t need to be an engineer to use it. Just plug in your numbers, and you’ll get clear results. Whether you’re charging a small 12V battery or a large 5kW solar storage system, this tool helps you plan with confidence.
Yes, it works for 12V, 24V, or 48V systems.
Use 85%. It’s a safe average for most systems.
Yes. Clouds, shading, and panel angle can slow down charging. The calculator assumes full sunlight.
Yes. Just add up the total wattage of all your panels.
