The calculator first finds the hyperfocal distance.
Hyperfocal distance formula:
H = (f² / (N × c)) + f
Here, H is hyperfocal distance, f is focal length, N is the f-number, and c is the circle of confusion.
Next, the calculator finds the near depth of field limit.
Near limit formula:
Dn = s(H − f) / (H + s − 2f)
Here, Dn is the near limit and s is the focus distance.
The far limit formula is:
Df = s(H − f) / (H − s)
If the focus distance is equal to or greater than the hyperfocal distance, the far limit is infinite.
Df = ∞ when s ≥ H
Finally, the total depth of field is:
DoF = Df − Dn

Suppose you use a 50 mm lens at f/8. You focus at 3 meters and use a full-frame CoC of 0.030 mm.
First, convert 3 meters to 3,000 mm.
Hyperfocal distance:
H = (50² / (8 × 0.030)) + 50
H = 10,466.67 mm
So, the hyperfocal distance is about 10.47 meters.
Near limit:
Dn = 3,000(10,466.67 − 50) / (10,466.67 + 3,000 − 100)
Dn ≈ 2,340.43 mm
So, the near limit is about 2.34 meters.
Far limit:
Df = 3,000(10,466.67 − 50) / (10,466.67 − 3,000)
Df ≈ 4,177.42 mm
So, the far limit is about 4.18 meters.
Total depth of field:
DoF = 4,177.42 − 2,340.43
DoF ≈ 1,836.99 mm
So, the total depth of field is about 1.84 meters.
