The formula comes from Newton’s Law of Gravitation. It shows how Earth’s gravity changes slightly with height.
Formula:
g = G × M / (R + h)²
Where:
At sea level, h = 0, so
g = 9.80665 m/s².
If you increase height, g gets a bit smaller because the object is farther from Earth’s center.

You can find distance using:
s = ½ × g × t²
If t = 2 seconds,
s = ½ × 9.80665 × (2)² = 19.61 meters
That means, in two seconds, you fall about 19.6 meters.
Convert 50 feet to meters: 50 × 0.3048 = 15.24 m
Use v = √(2 × g × h)
v = √(2 × 9.80665 × 15.24) = 17.27 m/s
That’s about 62 km/h when you hit the ground!
Use s = ½ × g × t²
s = ½ × 9.80665 × (6)² = 176.52 meters
You’d fall about 176.5 meters in six seconds if there’s no air resistance.
